Weekday night dining has to be one of my favourite things to do. After a long day at work, or in my case university, it really gets you into the mood for some serious food. Building up an appetite, I found myself in Bishopsgate, Liverpool street one evening this week.
The glowing sign out the restaurant read ‘Rocket’. Rocket is a glorious Mediterranean restaurant, serving the very best from traditional salads, to stone baked pizzas and pan fried fish. Fresh, delicious and appetising!
Once we got seated at our reserved table, my sister and I ordered a serving of pesto and tomato pizza bread to share from the list of appetisers whilst scouring the drinks menu.
An extensive array of heavenly cocktails I must say, but one caught my eye, the Grey Goose Fizz. Presented beautifully in a slender champagne glass, containing lethal grey goose vodka, midori (a musky-melon liqueur), passoã (a passion fruit liqueur), fresh lemon, topped up with champagne and a white sugar cube placed at the bottom of the glass, slowly melting away giving it a hint of sweetness. A smooth drink, that went down a treat. Not too sweet nor was it too dry. Just perfect!
My sister ordered the Seduce Moi, one of Rocket’s own cocktails – created by their bartenders. The name worked perfectly, arriving in a tall glass with berry colours bursting from it. Resembling a tall slender lady in a flowing salsa dress. Made with Amaretto Disaronno, cassius (blackcurrant syrup), raspberry puree, a dash of lime, topped with merlot and blackberries. A delicious drink, sweet and very easy to drink.
By the time we were done with our cocktails and pizza bread, our starters had arrived.
First up was the lamb koftas on orange chilli salsa with a tomato and basil pesto, served with a pot of minted greek yoghurt. The koftas were perfectly spiced, boasting with flavour. Clearly well marinated in the spices. The orange chilli salsa worked well, as it brought a sharp tangy taste that completed the more sweeter koftas.
This dish is traditionally halloumi and chorizo, however as we cannot eat chorizo, we put a special request in to the kitchen and asked if it could be changed for something like chicken. However, the chef had no chicken he could put as a substitute so we went for sweet potato instead. Nonetheless, it still tasted wonderful. Served on a bed of mooli (white radish), green mango and cucumber spaghetti with a roasted piquillo pepper sauce. The piquillo sauce made the dish, adding a kick and a delicious pepper flavour to the halloumi and sweet potato.
As our starter plates were cleaned up, our main courses arrived. Talk about timing and brilliant service!
We thought it was time to crack open a bottle of red Spanish house wine whilst we were at it. Beautifully complimenting the delicious mains that had arrived.
We both chose the same dish, which rarely happens actually. We’re generally adventurous and like to try different things to each other. However, the harrisa lamb skewers were just a no brainer for us both… and lets just say we weren’t willing to share. The skewer came with tender lamb, that just melted in your mouth along with sweet potato and zucchini. It was served on a bed of cous-cous, red onion, red and yellow peppers, pomegranate seeds and spring onion, with a drizzling of minted yoghurt on top. A very exotic dish! The cous-cous could have done with a bit more flavour and it would have been nice to have a lot more dressing on top as it was a bit dry. Other than that, an enjoyable dish.

My favourite part of any meal… Dessert! I may have a huge sweet tooth and absolutely love anything sweet, so dessert is a winner, always. My sister ordered the sticky toffee pudding, which was served with a scoop of salted caramel ice-cream. She absolutely loves both, so it was a real winner in her eyes. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious, I even had a try of the salted caramel ice-cream and luckily it wasn’t overpowered by the salt making it more palatable. I ordered the pecan and treacle tart, which was served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Utterly mouthwatering.
A brilliant experience at Rocket restaurant, brilliant service, delicious food and amazing alcoholic concoctions.
Until next time…

Yummy! This all sounds so lovely, those desserts look really, really tasty.
Those cocktails alone sound delicious!
The tart looks so good! I’ve been to the other Rocket in the city and it was a really nice post-work meal.
Those desserts look delicious, as do the cocktails in fact! They sound heavenly!

This looks lovely! Rocket is definitely on the list of places I want to try
This is literally right outside my office and we go for lunches all the time. I constantly get the pizza and just add all the toppings I want!
