Mother’s Day Special – Why Is My Mum So Special?

The lovely lady herself and my grandma.

Woooo, it is Mother’s day! The day that everyone shows their mum that extra appreciation, where a mother gets treated like queen and pampered throughout the day. Sadly, I cannot spend the day with my mum today because I have not finished university for Easter yet. It is the first one and I am missing my mum a lot today, so I thought I would show to all my readers why my mum is so special.

My mum is from East Africa, Kampala in Uganda to be more specific. She grew up there until Idi Amin asked all the citizens to leave the country and there was no choice about it. They were not allowed to take any belongings with them and were send to refuge camps around England. I could listen to this story all day, because it never gets old – it just gives you a glimpse of how strong and powerful my mum really is.

From nothing, my mum helped my granddad and grandma build themselves up in Bolton, north of England. From nothing then got themselves a lovely three bedroom house, it definitely needed some work done on it but it was something my mum was prepared to do. She put her heart and soul into that house to turn it into a home for them all. Even today, my mum still ensure the house is kept well and maintained after all it gave them a roof over their head when they were in need.

My mum then moved to Bournemouth when she got married to my dad. Again, it was her job to turn a house into a home. On completion, my mum was blessed to hear the news of her pregnancy with my sister Shamina and two years later, the birth of myself. This is where my mum’s life of motherhood started and it all became reality.

From the start, my mum has given us eternal love, care, love, and has brought us up to be the best we could be. My mum gave up her career as an accountant for both me and my sister, and I thank her everyday for giving up something she loved doing for us because we would not be what we are today without her. Every teaching that has been taught to us has never been forgotten, always put into practise. Everything she has ever wanted us to be, we have become, we owe her that at least.

I still remember watching the home-made videos of my mum feeding us food, rocking her old school perm in the garden in the summer haze. The videos of me trying to walk (and failing!) and our early birthdays where my mum would make pizzas and birthday cakes from scratch and personalise them for us. There really nothing that our mother has not done for us… everything time she does it with more love and passion.

Even today, she still gives me advice on how resolve complicated problems, or gives me a cooking lesson on the phone when I feeling like having some home cooked food. Not forgetting the little packages she freezes for me of indian delicacies and other treats. All my friends used to say how luckily I was to have a mother like mine and it is true.

My mum is my best friend, a friend that will not leave you because of an argument or something you said, a friend that is there for you at every hour of the day if you are in need or not, a friend that will love you whatever the situation and always be there for you. That sort of friend is priceless…

I hope you are having a fantastic day today mum, because you deserve it. I wish I was there with you today, but i’m there in spirit. Love you lots mummaaaaa!
