Lizzy Comes To Bournemouth

Let me introduce you all to my wonderful dear best friend Lizzy. The story starts at our university halls of residence prior to starting my first year of Biochemistry. Starting university meant meeting  new people during freshers, starting what could be real friendships. Freshers week allowed me to come across a girl who introduced me to Lizzy, where the start of of an amazing friendship blossomed.
Let me paint you the picture of what is a perfect friendship, trips to Häagen Dazs for dessert, walks along the embankment, nights out, delicious fine dining and crazy inside jokes. As our friendship grew we discovered that we had more in common and were basically the same person but opposite genders and from different parents, like a best friend and sister all in one. The friend that brings out the best in you, that always knows what to say and how to cheer you up at your lowest times but also can making the good times even better. Turning a boring situation into something that leads us to fits of giggles.
She promised me that she would visit Bournemouth this summer and what can I say? The girl keeps her promises. A trip was in progress and the great Elizabeth was making a debut visit to the sunny coast of England.
The countdown began and before we knew it soon the day arrived. Picking her up from the train station caused a great scene of squeals and hugs, it clearly had been too long! Keen enough to start showing her around my hometown, an initial catch up was required urgently. I decided to take her to the newly opened Sprinkles for a post lunch dessert – if there is one thing we both love it has to be all things sweet! Nothing compares to the delicacies we get served in London though! Our natter was far from over, in fact we had only just got started, therefore we had to make a trip town to the local Weatherspoons to continue to fill each other in of what happened over the past three months!
As the sun rose early in the morning, after some breakfast I decided it was time to do my long anticipated ALS ice-bucket challenge, if you have not seen it yet you can watch it on my Instagram. After what was a cold experience, there was nothing like a hot shower and lunchtime dining to make it all better! Post lunch, we went to the Bournemouth Air Festival watching the magnificent Red Arrows, ending the day with a lovely home cooked dinner by my wonderful mother and a night out in town! Us students never get tired of partying hard!
So… maybe the night out was a bit of a bad idea since I had to be at work in the morning, but I still made it even though I felt like a zombie! I decided it was ‘Bring A Friend To Work Day’, Lizzy experience a morning of my day to day life, being around horses from what started a nerve racking experience, she rapidly grew into a horse loving country gal!
After work it was onto our next sight to see within Dorset, trying to fit in as much sightseeing as possible. We ventured over to Poole Quay, walking along watching the beautiful expensive boats pass whilst the windsurfers had their fun too. We popped into Poole Pottery to see the magnificent pieces of art work and we managed to see a teapot being made from scratch – pure talent! On the way back to the car we picked up a yummy little treat, an old school 99 ice-cream… nothing beats it.
Friday evening drew to a close and we made a point of seeing the beach by night, strolling along the seafront for a couple of hours before sitting down on the soft golden sand whilst watching the extraordinary fireworks display. Breathtaking.
Saturday arrived like a shooting star, where did the time go?! Our last morning together before Lizzy took the train home so we decided to spend it in the high end side of Bournemouth at Sandbanks beach, messing around in the sand and having a traditional beach lunch. All good fun!
We had our last goodbyes and hugs as Lizzy jumped on the train back to Kent. Short but sweet, a special four days well spent with my best friend, the best way to end my action packed three month summer holiday before heading back to London for university next week.
