I think we have all learnt by now that I love food. As a fellow food lover and blogger, I keep a list of restaurants that I really want to try, a bit like a food bucket list! (Is that sad?!)
I have been following Honey who blogs over at Girl Next Shore for a while now, but it was just a matter of time before we got a date in the diary to finally get together. Two fellow food bloggers hit the town, so it had to be over dinner… It would be too rude not to!
The hardest part, where to eat? I pulled out my little big list of restaurants that I had wanted to try and we both came to a decision on Bob Bob Ricard. Perfect! Classy, sophisticated, good food and a bit of a luxury fine dining experience all packed into one.
A date in the diary, we both anxiously counted down the days until it was D day! Staring at the clock throughout the day whilst sitting in lectures but time was going extra slow.
5pm struck, it was almost time to see Honey! A mix of nerves and excitement bundled into one, I strolled on over from Oxford Circus into the streets of Soho weaving my way to Bob Bob Ricard.
Reservations in place, I was quickly seated whilst I awaited Honey’s arrival. What was she going to be like? I had a feeling she would be glam and fabulous and I certainly was not wrong!
The lady herself arrived, greetings were exchanged and we quickly settled down into our booth.
We caught up on each others day and studied the menus. A range delicious food on the menu, it proved a bit harder than we thought to choose what to have.
However, this little feature kept catching the corner of our eyes. An eager urge to press it, we finally gave in and pushed it. Bubbles, please!
Rosé bubbles were up first! A drink that easily makes all your troubles go away and brings out the fun side of an evening. 😉
At this point, we still struggled as to what to chose but we were absolutely starving so we ordered some bread and butter to satisfy the hunger whilst we continued to study the menu and decide.
Still warm, the butter melted right onto the surface of the bread. A soft inside and a crisper outer made it the perfect little pre-meal nibble.
Decisions were made and it was time to catch up over whilst we waited our starters to arrive.
I had the truffled potato and mushroom vareniki, which was served in a onion sauce. It was absolutely divine. The dumplings accompanied the sauce so well, it was just like pen and ink.
Honey opted for the wafer-thin beetroot and goats cheese salad, which was delightful. I am not normally a fan of goat’s cheese but this dish made me fall in love with it. A creamy and soft cheese, accompanied with crunchier slices of beetroot, another wonderful creation.
The starters were completely polished, it was time for the main course.
I went for the Spatchcock baby chicken, which had a crispy fried skin that was seasoned with garlic, rosemary and lemon. Delicious and strong flavours came together with each bite, it was heavenly. However, it was extremely difficult to eat which was the only downfall about this dish. I would have preferred it if it was breasts of chicken served in the same way.
Honey went for the Filet Mignon Rossini, which was served with Foie Gras (duck liver) and confit apple served with a truffle gravy. The meat was cooked medium rare and melted in the mouth, however Honey wished she had gone for her original choice of having it cooked rare.
I rarely step out of my comfort zone when it comes to trying different varieties of meat, but Honey asked me to try a bit of the Foie Gras. Personally it was not my thing but it was certainly edible and I can see why she liked it. I just have a strong sense of taste, which means some flavours come out stronger than others which sometimes puts me off certain food.
We went for the carrots and parsnips that were roasted in beef dripping with honey and thyme as a side to share, which was positively delicious!
Our hunger rapidly vanished and we were left with full stomachs, but there is always space for dessert, right? 😉
However, little did I know that Honey had another little surprise up her sleeve… sneaky sneaky!
The waitress brought this little treat over to me and wished me a very happy birthday. The sweetest and most heart felt gesture from Honey, to wish a very happy belated birthday. Grinning like a mad person, so overjoyed, I made one last birthday wish and blew out the candles!
When I thought the evening could not get any better, it did….
Out came this little beauty of a dessert, the Bob Bob Ricard Signature Chocolate Glory and oh boy it was good!
We broke down the walls of the beautiful spherical golden ball and inside was chocolate mousse with chocolate brownies, meringue and passionfruit and orange jelly. Scrumptious!
A wonderful evening at Bob Bob Ricard came to an end (but the night did not stop there for us!) Brilliant service, attentive waiters and waitresses, a lovely atmosphere and great good. I would most definitely come back.
