When most people work nine to five, Monday to Friday, they generally live for the weekend. Sometimes getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city and having a quick weekend getaway is just ideal. You don’t need to go far to enjoy the peace and serenity. Whether getting some sea and sand is your thing, a quick country getaway or just a nice relaxing spa weekend, I have you covered. I’m sharing my top 6 UK weekend getaways!
1. Bournemouth
Bournemouth is a place I know very well. It’s where I was born and grew up, spending around 18 years of my life. Bournemouth has so much to offer for a quick weekend away. From golden sand beaches, to amazing rooftop bars. If you like boats, you can get to Poole Harbour within 20 minutes. If you want to see the Jurassic Coast, you can get to Lulworth Cove within an hour. Nothing gets you a better sleep than a long seaside walk filling your lungs with fresh air. There is just enough to do to cover it in a weekend, making it the perfect getaway.
2. New Forest
New Forest is only 20 minutes drive away from Bournemouth, so can be added on into a long weekend or it can be a weekend trip in itself. Think of beautiful forestry with birds chirping outside your window in the morning, followed by a full English breakfast. Wandering around the forest, amongst the many wild ponies that roam the land. Before heading into a traditional pub for a pint or some afternoon tea and scones. Does that just sound amazing?
3. Cornwall
If you want an amazing spa weekend away, then I say jet off to Newquay. Only an hours plane ride or just over 4 hours by train or car, it is just ideal. Check in to The Scarlet and let all your worries disappear. Complete with outdoor hot tubs that look over the beach below, the best massages and spa packages, you will be heading home feeling extremely zen.
4. The Cotswold
If you want a more unique experience, I would head over to Cirencester, stay at the The Kings Head and have a proper polo experience. You don’t have to be an experienced rider or polo player, just willing to have a laugh and try your best. It was one of my favourite weekend getaways I have had in the UK. The town of Cirencester is unbelievably cute and old school, but it definitely gives you a proper change of scenery.
5. Jersey
If you’re the sort of person that prefers to escape somewhere on a plane, I suggest Jersey. It’s still technically within the UK and also an hour flight away. Some of the sights there are just stunning. Lounge by the pool, get a good spa treatment, have a champagne lunch out on the terrace and just relax. It’s definitely my ideal way of spending a weekend! I would definitely recommend to stay at The Atlantic, part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group.
6. Brighton
Another seaside break would be heading to Brighton. Only an hour by train from London to this beautiful city. It totally transports you, making feel like you’re in a far away yet classic destination. There are some well renowned restaurants in Brighton, so definitely a great place if you’re a real foodie. My personal favourite was 64 Degrees, one to try out!
