Lets set the scene here for my international readers. We’re in June, and we haven’t had a proper start to summer yet. One day, we will have temperatures around 20 degrees celsius with a glimpse of sun and the next day, the temperature will fall a few degrees and be pouring down with rain. Don’t get me wrong, I know we live in England, but come on?! Anyway, I digress…
London is my favourite place to be during the warm summer months, you automatically get this buzz where all the citizens of the big smoke come out of their shells and go full force. Yep, you name it, we do it. You can guarantee every park, pub, and rooftop bar to be packed to the brim across the capital.
If you’re looking for a couple of hidden gems to get you started this summer, you have come to the right place. Both of these summer terraces are exclusively luxurious, and they serve up some chilled concoctions to keep you cool from the heat. Are floral swings and peach bellinis your thing? I thought so. What about rum cocktails in an intimate Cuban setting? I know, you can’t wait to find out where can you? Well, luckily you only need to scroll down to find out. Let’s go!
Four Seasons London at Park Lane Terrace
Are you ready to transport yourself to a floral wonderland, filled with free-spirited bees that come and feed on the fresh nectar within the flowers? While you sit under the gorgeous lilac hanging lavender as you catch up with your best friends. It sounds like utter heaven because it’s exactly that. In such an intimate space behind the iconic luxury 5-start hotel, Four Seasons at Park Lane is where this beautiful spot resides.
Take up residence over an Aperol spritz or a peach bellini if you will. If you’re the designated driver, you can be sure to have a good time with their selection of coolers (The one with watermelon, lychee, mint and lavender is a huge hit!) Alongside the aromatic scents in the air and selection of liquid refreshments, the terrace has a selection of Italian Cicchetti (sharing dishes) to nibble on as the sun sets overhead. Whether you choose a selection of croquettes, burrata or bruschetta, you will be enjoying many delectable flavours with every bite.
But, you shouldn’t leave without getting a shot on the Instagrammable floral swing that sits at the back of the terrace, it’s the perfect way to get the group shot you’ve been waiting for, to kick start summer!
Hyatt Regency Churchill
Situated behind the opulent department store, Selfridges resides the perfect little hideaway to get away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Circus. It’s my favourite spot to run to for a couple of cocktails after a massive shopping spree. I mean, those bags are heavy! I have to admit, I genuinely look forward to the bi-yearly transition of the Hyatt’s terrace, as we transition from spring/summer into autumn/winter and vice versa. Every seasonal change brings something different, fresh and new. The drinks change to match, along with an innovative food menu that keeps everyone wanting to come back time and time again.
Head Bartender, Daniele Bresciani knows how to get creative with his cocktails, but also creates a little something for everyone. I’m sure he adds a couple of extra sweet cocktails to the menu on purpose, as every time I head over to the terrace, he always knows what you recommend straight away. That’s when you know you’re a regular!
This year, the focus is on Cuba, with Havana Rum as their spirit of choice, you can find many rum-based concoctions readily available to quench your thirst. The terrace is open but also sheltered, therefore you can guarantee a great evening, even if the weather takes a turn in true London fashion.
I would definitely recommend the Mojito de Sandia for watermelon lovers, but also if you like an elegant sweet drink. Paired with a bowl of sticky, chicken wings, you’re onto a winner.
