Hey! I’m Belle, I blog over at The Life & Times of Belle and today I’m gonna
be sharing my ‘Love Journey’ with y’all. So thank you very much to Aftab for
letting me hijack his blog for the day.

Rightio, so a bit of background to start with I
think would be wise – I’m nearly 21 now and I’ve been with my boyfriend
(creatively known as ‘the bf’ over on my blog) for 6 years. So yes, that
means that I was just 14 when we met – we were the classic high school
sweethearts and trust me, for the first couple of years (and still from time
to time during the last four years) I’ve been told that we “won’t
last” because we were “too young”.

Well, sorry to all of you non-romanticists out
there, but we did – six years and still going strong so apparently age has no
limitation on the longevity of a relationship – who knew?!

Anyway onto our Love Journey…
Like I said it started back in the spring of 2008,
we were sort of thrown together. One of my best friends knew him from a
church group they both went to and then brought him (I hate calling the bf
‘him’ – it seems so rude – but he doesn’t want to be broadcast all over the
interwebs – no idea why, so ‘him’ he shall have to be) along to a lunch that
me and another of my best friends was at. I can’t say that we really
experienced the whole ‘shot with Cupid’s arrow’ thing but we really did get
along and had some good conversation. The thing that stands out to me the most
about that first ‘date’ was that he carried my coat for me when walked into
town (what a gentleman!) and he managed to find me a Mcfly DVD that I’d be
wanting for ages and only briefly mentioned during the lunch that day – a
keeper, huh? We ended the lunch by swapping numbers and being open to where
it’s gonna lead…

So, fast forward to the next day and really I have
my best friend to thank for pushing him and I together – she just grabbed my
phone and text him asking if he was my boyfriend (somewhat childish I know but
we were only 14, so I think it can be forgiven). Long story short, he then
rang me and asked me and the rest is history.

Fast forward to now and the bf and I have enjoyed a
wonderful six years together. I really think that getting together so young has
really allowed us to experience some of the most important transitions in life
together – we’ve been together through our GCSE’s, our 16th & 18th
birthdays, college, choosing my university, the bf starting his career. I love
that we’ve been able to share these moments with each other.

I feel like during these past 6 years we have both
changed so much since we first met, but in my mind that’s a good thing – we’ve
grown together and really moulded each other’s lives. I wouldn’t change that
for the world. I also think that is one of the contributing factors as to why
we’ve stayed together through such a turbulent time period in both our lives,
both us have changed – not just one of us.

I’m not going to pretend that our love journey has
been plain sailing (trust me, it hasn’t!) but if you ask me, the happy moments
massively outweigh the suckier times. My most favourite things to look
back on that make me smile are the little things – watching a TV show together,
catching his eye when we’re in the same room, his surprise kisses when I’m
studying, him surprising me with little presents and cooking together…

So that’s our love journey so far – where do I see
it going in the not too distant future? Well, now that we are both in full time
employment (well, I will be after graduation!) we are planning on saving to
eventually move in together at some point next year and that really excites. We
have been ‘serious’ for so long now that moving in together hasn’t been an
immediate priority (plus we were pretty young!) but I’m excited to make that
next natural commitment to each other.

If you ask me, our Love Journey is testament to the
fact that love can just spring up on you when you least expect it and love from
a young age shouldn’t be immediately dismissed as one that wont last. There’s
hope people!
