The Beauty Of The Cold

As Halloween and Bonfire night pass, the clocks change and nights draw in early and the run up to Christmas and New Year begins.
The leaves are falling, letting go of the old, heading into hibernation over the cold months, ready to bring new life in the spring. The gustly autumn winds are blowing and the icey raindrops drift down from the sky, with the gloomy grey clouds not far behind. For England it is nothing new of course… but you can definitely tell winter is on its way!
I have never really been a fan of the colder months, but there is definitely something about it that calms my soul. As we come out of a fiery blazing hot summer, it is nice to feel at ease with a cooling breeze gently covering the ground.
The scented candles are lit, the Christmas lights are turned on, festive movies are enjoyed over a mug of hot chocolate and mince pies. The christmas coffee cups are released, the gloves and scarfs are retrieved from the back of cupboards, and the smiles of the youth emerge as the snow falls.
The mulled wine is brewing, the festive roasts getting ready for family gatherings and the sound of Christmas shoppers that franticly run around for last minute gifts. The horses grow their winter coats, out come the medium and heavy weight rugs and on comes the deep sludgy muddy goodness – squelching with every step in tall wellies.
True bliss. The colder months are a beautiful time of the year that tends to be overlooked, i’m guilty of it too… but I seem to be finding the true beauty deep under all the bitterness.
What are your favourite things about the colder months?
