New places are best tried with bloggers, especially restaurants. They share the same interest as you, can share personal opinions on the food but most of all catch up on the past few months!
I last saw Alexandra who works for Zomato at the last meet up back in December. After a handful of cocktails, we promise each other we would get together in the New Year… and a promise is a promise, right?
We set a date in the diary and headed out on a Friday lunchtime to meet at Bad Egg near Moorgate. First thoughts… Bag Egg was hard to find and tucked away behind many other buildings, even Alexandra had trouble finding it too! To our benefit, the difficult navigation led her to bump into our favourite blogger Zoe who blogs at Love And Limoncello, without a doubt she was invited to join us.
I was surprised to see her, but in a very good way. She walked elegantly in her high stilettos and draped black coat with a Prada bag in one hand, with Alexandra’s glowing smile and presence as they walked towards me!
We were quickly seated and ready to indulge! All the yummies.
The place gave off a diner feel and was heaving with office workers on their lunch break. Many men dressed in posh suits and ladies in tight dresses and stilettos.
Staring deeply into the menu, it soon became a difficult decision to chose what to order. So many delicious sounding dishes!
Zoe and I went for the Cheeseburger Hash and Alexandra went for the Bad Egg burger, with a side of normal fries for Zoe and I and Nduja Cheese & Egg fries for Alexandra.
Alexandra shooting a picture of my fresh still lemonade, which was very delicious and refreshing. I am loving all these freshly served juices being served at restaurants at the moment.
The food arrived quite quickly, which was quite impressive. However we could not understand the waitress at all, she spoke quietly and mumbled to the point we were unsure if we were getting the right dishes. However, somebody else came over to assist and did confirm it was correct.
The cheeseburger hash consisted of fried potato pieces, with a cheese burger patty on top, pickles, onions and warm cheese covered over it with a fried egg popped on top. (Basically a burger, without the bun and with an egg and potatoes instead). All those calories, but so worth it. I definitely didn’t feel guilty about it whilst I was eating it but I do now!
Alexandra’s bad egg burger consisted of a beef patty, Nduja cheese fondue, soft egg yolk, pickles, onions and yellow mustard. As you can see from the picture, this is how the burger left the kitchen and was served. Personally, I do not feel that it is acceptable to be served a burger like this. Alexandra being the kind soul she is did not want to cause a fuss, but it really is not on!
Alexandra re-assembled her burger in order to grab one last shot before we tucked in and put our cameras away for a bit.
Indulging away, we nattered and caught up over what we missed. Interesting stories were shared and lots of laughter too – the best way.
After our meal, which we finished in under an hour from seating and just used it as time to catch up further. However, we felt extremely pressured to get up and leave once we had finished. Bearing in mind there was no queue around by this point and various other empty seats too.
The people next door to us had some complaints too, so we did not feel like we were the only ones that had something bad to say.
Overall, the food was good. It was not anything extravagant but it filled us all up. I hate writing negative things on my blog, but sometimes things need to be said. Especially as they add a service charge into your bill too…which they were definitely not worthy of receiving.
Personally, I would not return to Bad Egg again. Maybe the name of the restaurant suits perfectly…
