Thank you to everyone who wished me well on my birthday over various social platforms, but yes… I am indeed 21 officially. Scary, but it opens all the remaining doors that were closed to me as a 20 year old.
On this auspicious occasion, my university friend Sofia decided to take me to a few places on the day of my birthday, one of them ended up being afternoon tea at the five star hotel, Radisson Blu in Leicester Square. I am sure many of you have seen it, elegantly tucked away at the back.
We arrived earlier than expected, so we took a perch at the bar sipping some cocktails. I asked the waiter for something exotic yet sweet and he came back with a lovely looking passion fruit infused cocktail, with sugar cane liquor that definitely settled my sweet tooth.
Before we knew it, we were ready to be seated. As a huge afternoon tea fan, I was so excited to see what treats they had in store for us but i’ll let the pictures do all the talking here…
I will admit, we did actually start eating the sandwiches and then I realised I had not taken any photos yet, so we stopped, rearranged it to look untouched and proceeded to snap away!
A boast about the service is much required here, the kindness the waiters and waitresses showed to Sofia and I was phenomenal. One thing that really stood out was, they took into account that we both cannot eat ham, so they brought out double smoked salmon sandwiches. Now… we all know how much I cannot stomach smoked fish, so I did confess but said it was nothing to worry about. However, minutes later they brought out more vegetarian sandwiches for us on top of what we already had. That is kindness at its best!
Along with our goodies, we opted for some herbal tea after being so intrigued by the different flavours they had to offer. Sofia went for the pure mango tea and I went for a mix of mango and strawberry together, which was positively delicious!
The first tier was a mix of smoked salmon, cucumber and egg sandwiches.
The second tier was mini lemon drizzle cakes, brownies, a sponge cake and a orange chocolate treat.
The third and final tier was made up of soft warm scones, with a scoop of clotted cream and two tall shot glasses of berry jelly. Yum!
We were presented with the cutest mini tub of strawberry jam to accompany our scones. I wanted to take it home with me!
Tier by tier, we demolished the whole thing leaving us with full stomachs. I think we needed to get out for a quick walk to digest all those carbohydrates!
Before we left though, I had to get a picture in the massive throne as definitely felt like a king after all the hospitality and fun!
