Indian Hearts Meet Indian Food At Cinnamon Kitchen

As cultured British Indians, we sometimes feel weirded out by going to eat out at Indian restaurants, especially as most people think you can make it at home. Correct, but some of us don’t have the time or skill set to make everything that we crave (only my mum can do such a thing!), that’s where restaurants come into play.

I had heard so much about Cinnamon Kitchen prior to my visit and I felt a bit ashamed that I haven’t tried it for myself… I needed to rectify that! Bookatable kindly offered me to visit one of their Star Deals for a complimentary meal, of course I couldn’t say no when I saw Cinnamon Kitchen was listed!

Monday night, not your average night to go out for dinner but there are plus points to doing so, you can easily get a booking for when you want and it definitely brightens up those Monday blues when you have something excited to look forward to. Let’s be honest, anything food related gets me excited! Now I sound like a right fatty… MOVING ON…

We were greeted by the beautiful scene of Devonshire Square, quite a sight really. Quote my sister “Why have I never ventured out of the station at Liverpool Street?” and for both of us, I think this is a wake up call that we haven’t explored enough of London.

Being seated in time for our booking, we were given the set menu of the night and were ready to get the evening started.

First arrived a very berry prosecco based cocktail, which was absolutely delicious. Fruity, sweet and with a nice touch of bubbles.

My sister and I rarely find the time to get together and go out for dinner, even though we live together. I’m either at university, at blogger events or out with friends and she is either rehearsing, at shows or working as a pharmacist. Therefore, it was a nice to get a chance to catch up and do something together.

Whilst we were waiting for the starters to arrive, our waitress brought out a little pre-starter of green pea and potato fritters.

Before we knew it, out came the starters. We had ordered the tapioca and peanut cakes served with tomato coconut chutney and cool yoghurt and lentil dumplings served with cucumber hearts and crispy spinach.

The dumpling was absolutely delicious. It was served with what I would call a lentil broth, which reminded me on my mum’s version the minute I tasted it. That’s say something, because I haven’t found any restaurant to date that matches my mum’s cooking!

The tapioca and peanut cakes really amazing! Savoury with a touch of sweet tamarind sauce drizzle on the top to add that little bit of sweetness and dipped with the coriander chutney on the side, it was perfection.

Next up, the main course… A mixed grill of sea bream, king prawns, lamb escalope and grilled chicken. I did make the waitress aware that I didn’t like prawns in general and she very kindly brought out an extra two pieces of chicken for us – which I thought was very kind!

The spices and marinade really took well to the meat and fish making it a dish with lots of flavour making you want more. The lamb was so cooked so well that it literally melted in your mouth, just  how I like it. The chicken was grilled to perfection, boasting a lovely garlic flavour that set my taste buds off.

To add more garlic to the scene, we ordered a side of garlic naan (can you tell we love garlic?) to accompany the grill and it left us positively full, to the point where I physically couldn’t face the dessert.

However all that changed when they arrived and you will soon see why…

We ordered the spiced pistachio cake with lime sorbet and the passion fruit and poppy seed meringue tart. The pistachio cake was just out of this world and went perfectly with the strong flavoured lime sorbet. However my favourite was definitely the passion fruit tart, especially as i’m a huge lover of tarts. I was expecting the passion fruit flavour to be faint but it was quite the opposite… big, strong flavours were bursting out of it – I was pleasantly surprised!

Overall, a fantastic meal from start to finish. Amazing service and very attentive waiters and waitresses. I will most definitely be returning back to the Cinnamon Kitchen and be telling all my friends about it too!

Until next time…
