June Degustabox – Picnic Edition

As a fellow foodie, I will never say no to trying something new. After all, I cannot make a judgement on something I haven’t tried, right? If I like it, I found a new food I like – yipee! If I don’t – that’s okay at least I gave it a go, I would not have known otherwise.
The Degustabox helps other foodies do exactly this, delivering a monthly box of new released surprise goodies to your door, to explore, experiment with and enjoy.

I received the June Degusta box, which was the picnic themed box, filled with lots of goodies and ingredients to make some picnic themed treats. This would have come in handy a couple of months back when I organised the LDN Bloggers Picnic

What did I get in the June Degusta box? Well… let’s just say not everything that was supposed to be in there actually arrived. Some deviations were made to the list provided, which was not a great start.
However, moving on to what actually arrived in the box…
Two Zeo carbonated drinks, two Pitch chocolate chip brioche packets, Kallo salt and vinegar rice snacks, Kallo milk chocolate with caramel pieces rice thins, low calorie Apple and Blackcurrant cordial, Maui and Sons coconut water, Coconom organic ginger flavoured coconut sugar (amazing!), Love Chin Chin biscuit/cake bites, drinkable jelly with collagen (bit odd?) and multigrain Melba thins.
Let’s see what I thought of each of the yummies that arrived…
I am totally in love with the Zeo drinks, a lovely refreshing drinks packaged in a beautiful slender bottles. I will definitely be picking more of those up in the shops, especially the Zesty Lime flavour as it was irresistibly tangy.
Let me tell you something, I love brioche, it was a stable snack of my sister and mine when we were touring around Paris. Nothing beats the true French ones, but these are the next best things. Also they are individually wrapped, which kept them fresh and didn’t have to eat them all within a short period of time.
The Kallo salt and vinegar rice crackers were a winner for me, especially as I loved the Snack-A-Jacks version of them and they were equally as nice. I have also had salted rice crackers from Kallo before I swore by them as being the most tastiest rice crackers out of all that I had tried in the past, so I was pleased that their flavoured rice crackers followed suit.
Another food product in the box was also by Kallo, the scrumptious milk chocolate and caramel piece rice thins, something that was totally guilt free but also a good form of a reward in a healthy eating regime.
The little apple and blackcurrant cordial squeeze bottle is a gem within itself. Small enough to throw into the picnic basket without taking up any extra space and also gives plain water that little extra flavour. Especially, if you’re like me and hate drinking plain water.
Maui and Sons coconut water was a god send in this heat. There is something so refreshing about coconut water and it is really good for the body as it is filled with nutrients, antioxidants, electrolytes and water, so it replenishes all that is lost on a hot and sunny day. I especially loved Maui and Sons coconut water as it did not include the coconut pulp in it, which I prefer, where as others do normally add pulp into it.
The coconut sugar was great, a healthy alternative to your everyday table sugar. Also it makes everything sound that little bit more exotic. “Yes, I added some ginger coconut sugar in my latte today”. I want to say that everyday and watch everyone get jealous! There is no obvious coconut flavour, which could put various others from using it. I absolutely love it!
Love Chin Chin bites were definitely one of my favourite snacks within the box. It was like cake and biscuits had offspring together and produced these beautiful nuggets of biscake goodness. Yum yum!
Multigrain Melba thins also made a perfect little picnic snack, especially when topped with some cheese, cucumber, tomato and maybe some chicken too? Okay, okay… I am getting a little carried away but my point is that they taste great with pretty much everything. They are packaged into small packets with 6 thins in each, so everyone gets their fair share.
The jelly with collagen was a real let down. I was quite skeptical about trying it to begin with, didn’t really fancy consuming collagen through my mouth but it didn’t take my fancy. I like my jelly in set in small tubs that I can use a spoon to scoop out rather than drinking it out of a packet. Shame, as the rest of the food products were fantastic.
Costing £12.99 per box, per month, it is quite good value for money especially when it is filled with contents that easily cost double the box price. However, I would probably order it once in a while or buy it for my favourite foodies as treat one month rather than have a reoccurring monthly box.
Have you ordered a Degustabox before?

Until next time…
