Day 21: My Favourite Subject To Study & Why?

I have always had a huge love for science, ever since I was a little kid. I think science has always been a big thing, since everything we are surrounded by and objects we own are made up of tiny atoms. (Do not worry, I am not going to give you a science lesson!) I personally feel that science is the future right now along with technology, especially in the pharmaceutical industry.

Therefore having done well in my science subjects during my GCSE’s, I decided to pursue it onto my A-levels and took Biology, Chemistry, Physics and IT. I was a huge science nerd, I know but those two years were the hardest years of my life. I did struggle a huge amount trying to keep them all going but I am so proud of myself. If it wasn’t for tears throughout those years, I would not have had the courage to be able to push myself and work against it and do well.  

I am proudly a Biochemist in training at a university in London now and I would not have it any other way. I absolutely love it and it give me great enjoyment that this degree will in fact help me cure cancer one day (that is the plan anyway!)

Why? I hear you ask. I have never been a mathematician nor brilliant at English personally, but science is a different language altogether, one that I am actually compatible with. It also opens so many doors in terms of careers opportunities, I can do so much with my degree – I am not fixed to one path. I have learnt so many new skills through it too, how to question, communicate, investigate and report – thing that are required in the working world. Never did I think I would be working with live bacterial culture that could potentially make somebody very ill if not handled correctly. There is also a certain ‘wow’ factor that was always attracted me, such as the different experiments that can be conducted and what can be made through a couple of reactions. 

When you have such qualities, you can work anywhere around the world too therefore offering a travelling experience too with a huge paid wage everywhere. 

I am sure there are more people out there that are looking to studying science, I hope this post gives you a bit of inspiration.
