What I do find as a blogger, being on Twitter and other social media is all well and good – other bloggers follow you to keep up to date with your posts and what not. Let’s get to the real crunch now, how many of my readers actually know me as a person? Other than my mine is Aftab and that I am a blogger? Here is a quick yet fact filled blog post on me and my life, the in’s and out’s behind the blogging screen.
My name is Aftab, I am a 20 years old. I am a Biochemistry Student at a university in London. Prior to university I was at Bournemouth Grammar School doing my A-levels, which consisted of Biology, Chemistry and ICT – can you see how I ended up in my field now?! I enjoy what I do and I hope that one day it will give me the skills to pursue my future career in cancer research. Many people ask me why cancer research? It is a deadly thing that has become as common as getting the flu, if I can provide that extra help and knowledge towards saving lives I want to.
Born and bred in a small town called Bournemouth, South West England along the coast. You have probably seen some of my pictures of Bournemouth beach, hands down one of the best beaches you will ever see (apart from Europe of course!) Having grown up here, going to London was a big shock. When I come home in the holidays it makes a change to go from the non-stop sound of sirens to pin drop silence – a much loved difference. London has become my oyster though, it has opened so many doors for me… not only blogging, but in terms of people and new places too. I have had the pleasure of being able to travel and see new places, try new food and experience things I would have never normally. Image is a huge thing in London, so it has definitely made me a lot more fashion conscious but also provided me the heart ache of my post shopping spree bank balance!
Not your average sport infused male, my passion has always been for horses. As you will notice from my past posts I have had the joy of starting ‘The Equine Journey’ sharing some friends equine stories with you all, I know they have been a hit for some of you on Twitter, especially #HorseHour and #EquineHour. I have been extremely lucky though, having had the two best horses Niamh and Blue they have really made all the early mornings and hard work worth while. I doubt I will ever know a life without horses, but as you may have read from an earlier post that I am taking a break from a few years to concentrate on my university education.
Along with the undeniable ability and way with horses, comes the support from my parents – Rehana and Mohamed. I can honestly say I have the two best parents in the world, I know that quote gets thrown around a lot – but mine well and truly live up it! Having raised me from a baby and made me into the man I am today, all credit goes to them. Whether it be the late night chats or the hurtful arguments, it has all been worthwhile and I am thankful for it all. Not forgetting my siblings too, my gorgeous older sisters Shamina (aged 22) and Shabana (aged 27) – they have done a wonderful job of assisting in my upbringing. I’m lucky to have Shamina with me in London, she has been a great support through my first year of university – especially as we have a unique sibling bond that will always keep us close.
That’s the overall view on my life, now to the nitty gritty parts. If you had to chose one alcoholic drink in the world, no matter the price, what would it be? Hands down, it would be the most expensive bottle of champagne. I absolutely love champagne! What about food? That’s a tough one, especially as I am such a big food person. I’m going to go for something really simple, as nothing beats a good ol’ spaghetti bolognese – pretty much what I ate every other day for the first few weeks at uni, mmmm. Your favourite restaurant? This is easy, the only place I would happily eat at everyday of the year – Nandos!
Do you drive? I do indeed, I have a special little Toyota Yaris (aka Yogi the Yaris). What are your favourite TV shows? I only ever watch American TV shows, because let’s be honest all the British ones suck. Currently watching Pretty Little Liars, The Mindy Project, 2 Broke Girls, Glee and Revenge, but if we are including ones that I used to watch or have now ended, it would entail of Friends, One Tree Hill, 90210, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives – all gems! Favourite sort of music? Well I will be honest, I am all about the chart life but in honour of my old american flatmates who called it “bubblegum junk”, with the odd bit of Bollywood music. What sort of films do you like? Your average rom-coms, the odd chick flick… wait… who am I kidding?! 99% of the chick flicks, bollywood films – Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham has to be my favourite. Are you a tech geek or a technophobe? I would definitely go with tech geek, my parents like to call me the “tech whizz” as I always seem to fix everything when it comes to technology. Do you like to read? I would not say I was a huge book fan, but I do read when I find a good book – so it must be recommendation worthy if so! I am also a big of a social media fanatic, so do follow me all of them to keep up to date with my going’s on… they can all be found in the navigation tab under my photo in the left hand column
That’s pretty much me in a nutshell. I hope this provided you with a pleasant insight on my life with common grounds of interest to converse about perhaps? If any of you share similar interests or have the same way of thinking, do let me know in the comments section below! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing this post for you.
