Let me give you a small insight on my gorgeous older sister’s education journey. Starting in Malmesbury Park primary school, as a young un’ with her little girl pick tails taking her first steps into school in year one. Sitting her SATS, and achieving what was a very commendable grade in them too. Finishing primary school in Year 6, she was ready her next stage of her education – secondary school.
Shamina being the keen and hard worker that she was, she sat her eleven plus exams to attend the most prestigious girls grammar school in Bournemouth and successfully passed, but due to the long waiting list she was advised that she seek another school to attend. As you can tell that her heart got destroyed and she was absolutely devastated. Her dream was always to attend Bournemouth School for Girls (BSG).
Her journey continued at Glenmoor School for Girls, she drove herself thinking that it was not where she went, as long as she put the effort in and worked hard she would be able to successfully come out with the same grades. Her first year at Glenmoor went past when my parents were called in for a meeting with the headmistress of Glenmoor school. My sister being the saint she is, it was a bit of a shock to the system – assuming that she had done something bad hence the meeting. Much to our surprise the headmistress wanted to talk to my parents regarding Shamina’s progress and she exclaimed how Shamina was overachieving and therefore would be better off at Bournemouth Grammar School for Girls – where she longed to go. Not before long, we were informed that the headmistress had personally spoken to the headmaster at BSG and she had secured Shamina a place to start Year 8 at BSG. Miracle or what?! Her destiny remained in that school and that is where she ended up.
As years went on, Shamina sat her GCSE’s and without a doubt she aced them with mostly A*’s and A’s, showing everyone exactly what she was capable of and proving that she had earnt her place at BSG. She carried on through to sixth form and undeniably she proved herself again… gaining an A* in one of her A-levels – the very first year that the A* was introduced into A-levels!
Her aspirations continued to grow and she decided she wanted to pursue a career in pharmacy and was ready to apply for her universities. She had confirmed King’s College London as her first choice in hope that she would successfully meet the the grades and she did – she got into where she wanted to.
The four years of her degree drastically flew past and today I saw the true lady she is, ready for the big open working world ready to become a King’s College graduate – a nerve racking moment that she has been anticipating for a while. My parents and I could not be more prouder than we are of her today. She has truly given us a taste of what true hard work and success is all about. “Success comes to those who work for it” – I cannot think of a better quote right now!
She amazingly came out with a 2:1 masters degree in pharmacy from the 3rd best ranked university for pharmacy in the world!!
I have a very close relationship with my sister and the support we give each other is endless, so I shall continue to be there for her and ensure she continues to grow and become an even better version of herself (if it is even possible?!)
Her success does not end here, she has secured her pre-registration year in a hospital which is what she had wanted to do since she started her degree, she has made it once again. Speechless.
